Programming, Music, and Law
Music has always been subjective. The rights to who has the rights to said music has been even more subjective. The reality of today’s music is that many people happen to create the same music as everyone else. This has resulted to many copyright infringement issues that have resulted in lawsuits. This has resulted in many wrongful lawsuits as to who owns what and why. Music is expressive and if someone happens to “copy” someone else’s song or riff or whatever, it shouldn’t be subject to laws that hinder the productivity of ones creative process. It is here where I think programming and machine learning can assist artists in not only creating better music but can remove the idea that music belongs to a single source. Hopefully with technology we can bridge the idea that a single note or a single melody belongs to a single musician and we can create better music in the future.
